Welcome to our website
Data is ever-present in the information age. It is often generated automatically and in abundance, for example by scanning our groceries at the supermarket. In research, large datasets with rich information about individuals, households and companies have been established (microdata). At the same time, every modern computer is equipped with enough processing power and storing capacity to analyze large datasets. What we can learn from the data depends more than ever on our ability to draw the right conclusions. Econometrics is the key skill for this. It involves developing and applying statistical methods to draw scientifically sound inference from economic data.
In our courses we offer an applied training in statistics and econometrics for economists, industrial engineers and students from other areas who are interested in these techniques, that are useful for researchers and practitioners alike. In our advanced courses for master and PhD students, we provide the opportunity to specialize in the analysis of microdata, for example company data from statistical offices or individual and household data from the socio-economic panel . Our focus on microeconometrics corresponds to our own research interests, the microeconomic focus of the study program in economics at TU Berlin and sets us apart from other chairs in statistics and econometrics at the three universities of Berlin.
